"During the general
priesthood session on Saturday, March 31, President Russell M.
Nelson announced a “significant” restructuring of ward and stake
Melchizedek Priesthood quorums that will help Melchizedek Priesthood holders
“accomplish the work of the Lord more effectively. In each ward, the high
priests group and the elders quorum will now be combined into one elders
quorum,” he said. There will continue to be a stake high priests quorum, but it
will based on “current” priesthood callings." (link at bottom)
My first reaction to this change is that it is going
to be filled with problems, and probably won't
last long.
After considerable thought
I strongly feel that the change is needed right now in
the church. As part of the announcement, they
said the current Elder's Quorum President will be
released and the Stake President will call a NEW
Elder's Quorum President. We live in OREM Utah
and this ward desperately needs an entirely new
Elder's quorum Presidency.
The other challenges I see, is ONE lesson for all
the men in the ward over 18 is going to be a tough sell.
And last but not least, if there are too many men, there
will be TWO Elder's Quorums. We lived in a ward
that had two Elder's quorums and that was a challenge
of its own.
Sadly, this probably means there won't be an announcement about
any more changes in the church today, the last day of conference.
Meetings won't be shorter, no change in garments, . . .maybe next time. . .
