My father, William Patten's older brother died in December.

Boyd married a woman who was not LDS.  Their religious differences
were a source of conflict all their lives.  Boyd purchased a burial
plot for both he and his wife.  However, since Boyd died first
Adelaid chose to cremate him.  His ashes will be placed in
the plot that Boyd purchased while he was alive.

Boyd's death makes three of William's siblings that died in 2015,
about six month apart.  Florence and Helen are posted in June
on this blog.

As is mentioned in the obituary, there is only one sister left alive.
She lives in California.

St. George, UT- Boyd Gordon Patten, 94, passed away on December 3, 2015 at Dixie Regional Hospital. He was born June 16, 1921, in Payson UT to Charles Henry Patten and Sofie Wilhelmine Nielsen. He married Adelaide Eugenia Copeland in Panaca, NV, on January 11, 1941.

Boyd was raised in Payson UT, attended Peteneet Elementary School and Payson High School, both located in Payson UT. Boyd and Adelaide met in Pioche, NV, when Boyd was working in a gold and silver mine with Adelaide’s brother, Carlos. The couple eloped and moved to central UT and Boyd started working for the railroad as a telegraph operator. After the railroad, Boyd started working for United States Steel in Geneva UT working in the traffic department. In 1956 they moved to Redwood City, CA, and Boyd transferred to US Steel in San Francisco, CA. Boyd worked in San Francisco for 22 years before transferring to the US Steel plant in Pittsburg, CA. Boyd retired from US Steel and started his own company, Patten Steel Company, located in Stockton CA. In 1992 Boyd sold the business and moved to St. George, UT where he and Adelaide lived until his passing. Boyd spent time with his wife of 74 plus years, traveling across the United States enjoying the wide variety of food and restaurants in every new city.

Boyd is survived by his wife Adelaide, his daughter Sandra Wilkes, son Scott Patten and daughter-in-law Diane, seven grandchildren Kurja, Ryan, Aimee, Jamie, Lindsey, Rick and Chad, along with 8 great grandchildren. Boyd is survived by his sister Dune Lazenby of Santa Paula, California. Dune is the last survivor of Charles Henry Patten from the original 17 children. Boyd was preceded in death by his sons Michael and Rodney Patten.

A family service will be held at the Hampton Inn in Orem Utah on January 9, 2016 at 1:30 PM. Boyd will be laid to rest at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, Utah.
