Charles Melvin Patten Killed in Battle with the American Expeditionary Forces at the age of 23.

I found this posted on Facebook by my cousin's husband.   He was born 23 December 1895

and died 22 July 1918 at the age of 23.  This was posted on the

day he died, July 22.   Karen and Fred's

section begins with We are celebrating.

  I always called him Melvin and he is my Uncle  and uncle to all of William Patten's children too. He is named after his father Charles Henry Patten. We put flowers on his grave in Payson every Memorial Day.

"We are celebrating the life of one of America's Heroes in World War I. This is Karen's Uncle, Charles Melvin Patten, who died from shell fragments in the French Theater July 22, 1918. His remains were returned to his home in Payson, Utah, three years later. He his now buried in the Payson City Cemetery close to his Father and Mother. Melvin was the oldest of Karen's Grandfather's 17 children. Melvin was born in Dublan, Mexico. In April of 1917 he enlisted into the army in Boise, Idaho. His memory will be honored and his sacrifice revered. Thinking of you Private Charles Melvin Patten Thank you for your service and sacrifice."
