When is 80% on a linear algebra test a bad score?

When the class average is 88%.

Adam got 80% on the first test.  At one time he feared
he got 30%.  80% has got to be better than that,
however I wonder how many scored lower than 88%.

This has got to be bad news for class average.

None of the students able 88% will drop the class
and the average may get higher.
