8 cars burned in UVU parking lot. Tuesday September 17, 2013

Eight vehicles were burned when one car burst into flames Tuesday afternoon at a Utah Valley University parking lot.
One car ignited about 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot west of the library, said UVU spokesman Chris Taylor. The fire spread to seven other vehicles.
The cause of the fire is under investigation; it appeared to have started in the engine area, Taylor said. The cars sustained varying degrees of damage, “from melted plastic to significant engine and strucutral damage,” Taylor said.
“It’s an unfortunate situation,” Taylor said. “We’re just pleased that no one was injured.”
Orem Fire Capt. Chad Van Orman said crews coming from a nearby call had the blaze out in a matter of minutes, but not before it spread to nearby cars. Six cars were completely torched, while at least two others sustained body and heat damage from the flames.
