In the UVU Engineering Mousetrap car race, the following categories were criteria for
winners: speed-fastest, lightest weight, distance, and least number of parts.
I am assuming the teacher thought it would be a different car for each category.
Adam's group (Adam made the car ALONE) had the lightest car, which also
happened to be the fastest. Adam's car weighed only 29 grams and the all time
record prior to this was 40 grams, so in my opinion that weight should be worth
lots more.
Adam's car also won speed however it didn't make it much father than the 10 ft minimum
cars were required to go.
Adam's car also had the least number of parts (9) and that includes super glue.
Adam used a mousetrap, 4 wheels and a front and rear axle.
The car that won distance went 3-4 times as far as any other car and on the
last run got far enough there was a downhill slant which carried it even
farther. We walked out the with the ONLY girl in the class who was
carrying the car and she told is, it was HEAVY and not very FAST.
It was an airplane car, and may be the only car in the class that is still
together and could still race.
Adam's car broke and was unable to do a 3rd run. They took first place
with only 2 runs. Another car was thrown into the trash in front of the teacher
before they left the area.
