Saturday morning Adam left to hike up to Squaw Peak in Provo
Canyon about 7:00 a.m.
About 11:30 a.m. elsie went into Mary's room with a bloody
nose and Mary found the object in her nose. (We couldn't
tell what it was until it came out)
Adam "rolled" his ankle about 1 1/2 miles from the bottom
of the mountain on the way down. It took Adam considerable
more time to get to his car than normal.
When Adam got home and it became evident "we" couldn't
get the thing out of Elsie's nose, we got in the car to take her
to Insta Care of the Emergency Room. Somebody decided it
would be better to go to the After Hours Doctor and I had
to go back in the house to call Adam's pediatrician to find out
which office was on call for after hours.
Simultaneous to our problems a big truck knocked down some
polls on center street in Orem and the telephone and power lines were
out at all of the University Valley Pediatricians in Provo
and Orem, and a bunch of places in Orem.
Finally, we drove to Adam's pediatrician on University
Avenue in Provo, hoping to find someone who could tell
us which office was on call. Despite the fact the lines were
down, the receptionist was on the phone with someone.
The receptionist told us they were on call and the
doctor would be there in 30 minutes which turned out
to be an hour.
The doctor tried with THREE different instruments
to get it out while Mark and Adam held Elsie down
and the nurse held a light on her nose. He couldn't get
it out, and said to let Elsie get up.
Adam sat in a chair and held her on his lap and they
tried to get her to tip her head back. By this time Elsie
was familiar with the nose process and didn't tip her head,
but with a fourth kind of instrument and Elsie sitting up
the small piece of crayon came out.
Elsie spent the afternoon trying to put her finger in MY nose.
