WILMA JANE NESMITH BURDETT JOHANSSON 1930-2017

Wilma Jane Nesmith Burdett Johansson was born December 28, 1930 to Edna Gertrude Ashcraft and Thomas McKinley Nesmith in Binghamton, New York.  She died May 3, 2017 in Harbor City, California at the age of 86 of  Alzheimer's Disease.

Wilma was the fifth and youngest child to her parents.  Her siblings were Doris, Norman, Jean, and Thomas.

Wilma married Rhodes Bruce Burdett,14 August 1948, and they had five children.  They divorced.  Wilma married Julian Alfred Johansson,3 September 1966.

Wilma was raised on a small, family dairy farm, but the main source of income was her father’s carpentry business.  The family relied on the farm for their food and necessities.

There was a small pond that froze in the winter where Wilma ice skated when the pond froze, near her home in New York.   Wilma loved to sing and sang in the church choir when she was younger before she got married.  Wilma loved flowers and house plants and spent hours working outdoors in her garden.  The flowers surrounding her homes were always in bloom, especially in Washington, where it didn’t freeze like New York.  Wilma always had a garden when she lived in places where she could.  Wilma loved being outside in the sun and had a real adjustment to the climate in Washington where there was less sunlight than California.  She loved going to the beach with her sisters and children.

Wilma’s mother Edna taught all of her children how to decorate a home, and Wilma kept her homes looking nice.

Wilma worked for several years as a nurses aide and took care of people.  She was a companion, went shopping, helped with meals, cooking and babies and smaller children.

Wilma loved being with family, and planned and organized family dinners, picnics, barbeques and holiday activities for her children and grand children.

Wilma is survived by four children, Thomas, Olympia Washington, Daniel Atlanta, Georgia, Mark and Peggy, Orem, Utah, and Guy and Laurie from American Fork, Utah and  her sister Jean Yerdon, Massachusetts.

Wilma is survived by 17 grand children and 31 great grand children
